The biggest proponents of copyright on the web would be electronic publishers, Hollywood, telephone companies, and cable companies.

According to Charles Mann: "Today it is widely believed that personal computers, cable television, the Internet, and the telephone system are converging into a giant hose that will spray huge amounts of data -- intellectual property -- into American living rooms. As this occurs, according to the conventional scenario, the economic winners will be those who own the zeroes and ones, not those who make the equipment that copies, transmits, and displays them. Because copyright is the mechanism for establishing ownership, it is increasingly seen as the key to wealth in the Information Age" (Mann).

The arugement for copyright is not only limited to those who hold the power positions in publishing and Hollywood. Many individuals believe that when it comes to thier work it should be protected. What is the law and what protection does it offer? To find out see Copyright law.
